I think the vast majority of people buy race shocks because they see them on instagram, they auto assume due to the price that they ride great and last along time and generally not the case- unless custom tuned, but still generally very high maintanence- way more than you should have on a daily driver. They have their time and place IMO - usually on purpose built trucks - Dedicated trail trucks, fully built out overland rigs, etc. I’ve had buddies that all run FOX, KING, etc who all told me not to waste my money and just buy some 5100 or 6113 bilsteins. The mid range stuff is usually ideal for MOST people… get something made well, potentially valved well depending on brand and usually last longer than those on their other end of the spectrum. I had a set of procomps before these 5100s that were built well enough to be abused, but very generic valving and not comfortable on the road at all… lasted about 40k- which is longer than alot of cheap shocks. A couple of my buddies recommend the Eibachs…. But said it’s basically a 5100 with a little softer valving though still uses thin build construction components. Depending on use… everything seems to be fine, but an awful lot of people run these bilsteins and have no problems at all and love the ride. I am
One of those people. Love these shocks. Cheap and great on and off road.
